Mavcoat® Mold Release and Fiberglass Composites: Industry Overview
Cost reduction reigns supreme in today’s economy. Employees work daily at lowering material and labor costs in an attempt to create efficient manufacturing that ensures company viability. Our technology fills this need. Mavcoat mold release coatings provide a semi-permanent, multiple release system with just a single coat. Together with our cleaners, sealers, and mold release coatings operators have a system that meets all their mold preparation needs.
Mold Cleaners
It is critical to maintain the quality of a mold’s finish to ensure excellent surface cosmetics of finished parts. As a result, every Maverix mold cleaner has been engineered to remove resin buildup from tools without attack and with minimal abrasion even on the finish of class A finished molds. Depending on your need or preference, we offer solvent-based and water-based formulations.
Mold Sealers
Even after significant time and curing, composites molds are very porous. Sealers act to fill these microscopic crevasses that can act as mechanical binding sites. Sealers are “insurance” for mold release coatings so parts have little to no chance of sticking. Sealing a mold also increases tool life by becoming part of the tool itself and acts as an interface to accept the mold release coating.

| Solvent-Based Mold Cleaners |
Maverix Cleaner 303
Easily removes wax-based release coatings from composite or metal molds. Simply wipe 303 onto the mold surface and allow a short contact time for the chemistry to break down the residues and wipe clean. 303 will not harm mold surfaces – even those with class-A finishes.
Maverix Mold Cleaner
Is designed for cleaning metal molds only, as it is too aggressive for composite tools. It breaks down buildup of semi-permanent polymer releases and residues of polyester and vinylester resins and epoxies on metal tools without damaging the mold.

| Water-Based Mold Cleaners |
Maverix Cleaner 202
Strips polymer-based, semi-permanent release coatings from composite or metal molds. Apply 202 by spraying or wiping onto the mold surface and allow a short contact time for the chemistry to break down buildup and residues. Wipe with a cloth and follow with a clean water rinse for a mold surface ready to accept Mavcoat AD Mold Sealer.
Maverix Cleaner 505
Easily removes wax-based release coatings from composite or metal molds. 505 will also clean light films of styrene buildup.

Mavcoat AD
Is designed to seal the porosity of composite tools made from polyester, vinylester, epoxy, and all other resin surfaces. AD helps to improve the surface quality of finished parts even for class A finished molds.

| For Gel Coated Parts
Mavcoat SK-5
Is a quick-cure, fast evaporating, semi-permanent mold release coating for the release of reinforced polyester and vinylester resins. SK-5 can be wiped on to the mold surface, but is really designed to be sprayed so operators save precious application time and thereby reduce labor costs. Upon evaporation and cure, parts demold with a high gloss finish.
For Non-Gel Coated Parts
Mavcoat KCP
Is also a quick-cure, fast evaporating, semi-permanent mold release coating for the release of reinforced polyester and vinylester resins. KCP is a stronger, polymer-based release that works better for non-gelcoated parts and can be wiped or sprayed onto the mold surface. KCP resists buildup and produces parts with a high gloss finish.
