Maverix
Solutions has developed a unique mold release chemistry to exceed the rigorous demands of manufacturing advanced composites.  We recognized the need for a simple, yet sophisticated mold release system for operators to employ. Mavcoat mold release coatings meet this challenge by giving the industry a single-coat, water-based or solvent-based coating that does not require sealers or primers. Just coat and mold!

Mavcoat® Mold Release Coatings for composites are designed to simplify the production process.  ONLY A SINGLE COAT IS NEEDED.  No need to use sealers or primers.  Operators can begin production as soon as Mavcoat has uniformly coated the mold!  Finished parts exit the mold cleanly and easily.  And due to Mavcoat’s inert chemistry, it provides release for epoxy, phenolic, polyester, and polyvinyl ester resins in wet lay-up or prepreg processes.  Maverix Solutions has the products needed for manufacturing applications such as,

Mavcoat® Mold Releases for Carbon Fiber have several important features that differentiate them from other products found in the industry. The unique chemistry prevents pinholes from occurring and acts like a lubricant by allowing the resins to easily flow at gel temperature and cure without porosity to produce a cosmetically perfect part. In some cases, sanding or media blasting can be eliminated. Other properties include:

  • Highly nonstick (low coefficient of friction)
  • Thermally stable over wide range of temperatures
  • Nonflammable
  • Chemically inert
  • Clean and non-staining
  • Insoluble
  • Non-migrating

Additionally, Mavcoat® does not form a hard, thick film on composite tooling like most competing release agents. As a result, it is easily cleaned from composite tooling without scouring, blasting media, or other abrasive procedures.

Mold Release Coatings
Solvent Based
Mavcoat SK-4
Is a solvent-based, semi-permanent release coating
that chemically bonds to the mold surface.  It
possesses high thermal stability allowing it to
withstand all molding temperatures.  SK-4 does not transfer to the finished part and releases epoxies (thermoset and prepregs), polyester resins, and thermoplastics.

Mavcoat SK-5
Is the faster evaporating version of SK-4.  It is a quick curing, solvent-based, release coating for epoxy, phenolic, and polyester resins that imparts a glossy finish.

Mavcoat KS
This is the K series “workhorse” release coating.  KS is the best all-purpose release for composites.  It is a semi-permanent coating that yields multiple releases for all thermoset resins.  Currently used in critical

Mavcoat K
Is a fast evaporating, semi-permanent coating with unique polymers that allow for multiple releases without transfer to the finished part.  Releases all thermoset resins.

Mavcoat KCP
Contains unique additives for high slip and is used for difficult to release parts in the most demanding applications.  KCP is fast evaporating, solvent-based, and semi-permanent capable of releasing all thermoset composites.

Water Based
Mavcoat CFR
Is a water-based release designed to yield a glossy surface finish.  Good for high volume production work where release needs to be applied to hot molds.  Yields multiple releases with a single application.

Mavcoat EP-111
Is water-based and yields a matte finish with excellent surface cosmetics and a finish free of porosity or pinholes.  Good for high volume production where release is applied to hot molds.  Yields multiple releases with a single application.

Mavcoat EM
Is a ready-to-use, water-based system for high volume production where application to hot molds is more frequent and semi permanence is non essential.  Contains anti-slip, high lubricity polymers for all thermoset composites in compression and RTM applications.

Mavcoat GSMR
Is a concentrated, water-based coating used for mandrel-built parts that eases mechanical extraction of part from mandrel.  GSMR can be diluted with water for certain applications.  Good for release of all polyester resins, epoxies, and phenolics.



Cleaners
Maverix Mold Cleaner
Is a gelled, non-flammable cleaner that dissolves, encapsulates, and lifts all thermoset resins, epoxies, phenolics, urethanes, and thermoplastics from metal molds. The gel clings to vertical surfaces and strips all residue and build up down to metal surface without attacking metal.
Sealers
Mavcoat AD
Seals the porosity of composite tools made from polyester, epoxy, and most other resins.

Mavcoat ND
Designed to seal micro-porosity of metal tools and prepares surface for release coating.
